Learn how to create your own vision board books in this two-hour beginner friendly workshop with artist Ember Muninn. Together we will go through the steps for creating your goals or vision, that we will then transform into a series of collages. Finally, we will bind the whole thing together using a traditional Japanese binding technique.

All tools and materials are provided. Feel free to bring along any collage material that you would like to incorporate into your book.

BOOK BINDING FOR BEGINNERS

$60/student. Maximum capacity 10 students.

2 hour workshop

Learn the basic steps and methods of book binding! Learn about different techniques such as the 8-fold book and pamphlet stitch, and then make your own Japanese Stab Binding book that you can take home afterwards.

All tools and materials are provided.

ALTERNATIVE BOOKS

If industrial dryer lints sheets, knitting needles, egg cartons, and dental floss can be used to make books, what else can? Find out in this exploratory workshop where we take junk journaling to the next level by creating a one-of-a-kind artist’s book.

For this workshop, bring in as many unconventional materials as you can from the thrift store, Urban Source, or your mom’s basement. All other tools and materials are provided. Some bookmaking experience is recommended.

LONG-STITCH JOURNALS

Learn how to create stunning journals with multiple signatures, exposed stitching, and fabric covers in this 3 hour workshop, designed to give you a solid foundation in traditional bookmaking. This workshop is recommended for intermediate students.

All tools and materials are provided. 

LET’S MAKE ZINES!

$45/student. Maximum capacity 20 students.

2 hour workshop

In this beginner-friendly workshop, learn how to make original zines with themes. Using collage as a narrative tool, students will practice developing a topic or following a feeling to guide their work and create two meaningful, authentic zines, that we will then scan and print multiples of.

All tools and materials are provided, no experience is necessary.

THIRFT RE-BOUND

$65/student. Maximum capacity 10 students.

3 hour workshop

Learn how to easily transform any paperback book into a hardcover masterpiece. For this workshop you will need a non-sentimental paperback book in any condition (I recommend bringing in a few to choose from). We will go over essential book conservation techniques, as well as how to create a hardcover case and insert your book block. This workshop is recommended for beginner-intermediate students.

All tools and materials (minus your thrifted book) are provided. 

COPTIC SKETCHBOOKS

$85/student. Maximum capacity 6 students

3 hour workshop

Learn how to make your own lay-flat sketchbooks using one of the world’s oldest binding methods. Students will learn how to tear down large sheets of premium paper, make their own hardcovers, and how to sew the signature coptic stitch in this 3 hour workshop.

This workshop is recommended for intermediate-advanced students. All tools and materials are provided.
